The 320 members of the Barokah Bersama Co-operative live at the base of Mt Kerinci on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. Mt Kerinci is one of 452 volcanoes in a horseshoe of 40,000 kms called the Ring of Fire, a wild world of moving plates and volcanic activity. This coffee is a Grade 1 (defect free) Kerinci coffee variety native to this location. The process is an anaerobic natural, where the cherries experience a 7 day fermentation before being pulped and dried. The result is a concoction of sweetness, giving a nod to the summery fruits of watermelon and pineapple. These guys launched their co-op in 2017, and they run a pretty epic operation including a roasting facility, cupping lab along with their processing mill.

We love this coffee cos’: it’s reminds us of the taste of summer we are missing! We also love supporting our Indonesian neighbours in coffee every chance we get.
